To achieve REST through floatation, participants enter a custom floatation tank. These tanks are filled with 500 kg of Epsom salts dissolved in 1000L of water, creating a 30 cm deep floating solution heated to match skin temperature.

Many describe floating as a feeling of complete weightlessness – with the extreme buoyancy of the float tank environment removing the effects of gravity on the body.

Get comfortable
To find the best body position for you, expect to experiment a little before you really settle into your float. You may like having your hands down by your side, or maybe floating up around your head. You might like lying flat on your back, on your tummy with your head supported by a pillow, or curled up on your site. (If you’re pregnant, you may find side floating most comfortable). It’s hard to know what will feel right until you get in there and try a few positions out.

Customise your experience

Lights on or off? Music on or off? The choice is all yours! The lighting in your pod is designed to cycle slowly through Chakra colours, so if you choose to leave the lights on the experience is crafted to be relaxing. Many find it easier to achieve relaxation more quickly with the lights off, and allow it to cycle through a few times before turning it off. You have complete control of your experience, so choose what feels best for you. The same goes with music – you can choose to have deep meditative music playing quietly throughout your float, or float in silence. Craft your perfect experience and simply float away!

Just relax and let your float take you places your mind, body and soul ever expected. As for the time – let it take care of itself. A typical float lasts 60minutes, although 2 hour floats are also available. To gently rouse you from your relaxation, the lights and music will turn on automatically nearing the end of your session. So simply relax, rejuvenate, and reset your mind.

Very! Our float pods come well equipped with several features to maintain hygiene of the water. The main filter device is a custom-built stainless steel enclosure holding a replaceable 10 micron filter bag. This device is capable of filtering debris in the water as small as 1/4 the size of the diameter of a human hair. Water is also pumped by a UV light array, taking care of any micro-organisms that survive the extreme salt content of the water.

Our pods are the first to feature a dual chemical injection system, allowing us to further ensure cleanliness through the use of two chemical disinfectants.

No. We want you enjoy floating and create a float experience you will be comfortable with from start to end. You can choose to hop in and out of the tank as you please.

The door of the float tank is designed to be robust for sound proofing, but also very easy to operate. They feature the highest quality gas springs to ensure the door opens and closes with ease. In all three of our float rooms you have complete control of your environment at all times.

Nothing! Towels,, earplugs, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer – we’ve got everything covered. We want you to bring nothing, experience nothing, and gain everything
Although you may choose to wear bathers, most prefer to float naked to avoid pressure on the body (and distraction) that can come from wearing clothes. Remember, you are in complete privacy – much like having a bath in your own home – when you float with us. Do remember to remove any metal jewelry (to avoid corrosion) and contact lenses prior to floating. We also ask that you shower, shampoo, rinse thoroughly and dry your face before you hop into the tank (to avoid salt water running into your eyes).
Yes, anyone can float. No matter what your shape, size or ability, you will find yourself able to float – similar to a cork bobbing along on top of the water. Becalmed Float is the first floatation in Perth to offer a pod with disabled access, making floating truly accessible to all.

Please note, for safety we require children under the age of sixteen to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Yes! If you have cuts or scratches or you have recently shaved, you may experience mild stinging for several minutes when you first enter the pod. If you are concerned, use liquid bandaid solution to seal open cuts before you leave home, or use the vaseline sachets we provide.

The extremely high concentration salt will also sting your eyes for a few minutes if you get water in them. To avoid getting drips in your eyes, tie or push your hair back on your forehead before sitting up at the end of your float, and avoid rubbing your eyes with salty hands.

Leaving your towel within easy reach of your tank will allow you to wipe your eyes if any discomfort occurs. For your comfort and peace of mind, a clean water spray bottle will also be accessible from inside your pod during your float.

The tank solution won’t cause any more harm to your hair than your usual shampoo and conditioner. In fact Epsom salt can increase the health and volume of your hair.

However, to preserve our pods and filters, please wait a week after you dye your hair before floating to make sure that any extra color has had a chance to rinse out.

Because of the deep relaxation created, it is common for people to fall asleep in the tank. In fact, one hour of floating is equivalent to 4 hours of deep sleep. The buoyancy of the water will keep you floating. There is no risk or problem with allowing yourself to drift away.
No! Incredibly, you can float for hours and never get cold or prune. The Epsom salt (or magnesium sulfate) acts as a regulator for water and inhibits the water from saturating in the skin. Epsom salts do not have the same drying effects on the skin as the salt we cook with.

Although the salts do remove oils from the surface layer of the skin, it draws oils from the layers beneath which creates baby-soft skin.

The temperature of the water is heated to skin temperature at all times, providing perfect temperature for floating. All three of our float rooms also remain heated to ensure you are always warm – whether inside or outside of your pod. Perfect for a winter warmup!
